Crazy for Mazes!

Are you as crazy as I am about Mazes? Are you the daring type that does them in pen? How do you feel about backtracking - do you pick up your pencil and start over when you hit a dead-end, or turn around and go back? Have you ever started at the Finish and worked your way backwards to finish at the Start? Ever race with your friends?

Well! Have I got some Mazes for you! Some simple ones for the newbies and some humdingers for the vets! And why not color them when you're done? Or even do them in different colors! You know, switch colors every time you run into a dead-end. That would make for some interesting color blends when you backtrack. If you believe in backtracking that is!

And whadaya know? Turns out they improve hand-eye coordination! Who knew that when you were racing through those twists and turns, eyes crossed and tongue hanging out, you were actually working on your small motor skills? It's all good!

I hope you had fun with these 2 dimensional mazes! Have you ever gone through a 3D Maze? Around Halloween and Thanksgiving, you might find a local farmer who turns his cornfield into a maze.

One October I went through one with 3 generations of my family. We split up into groups and headed off into the corn. It's pretty easy to lose your bearings when all you can see are towering stalks and sky above! After a great deal of running around in circles and shouting to find each other (Marco! Polo!) we all made it out for the hayride back to the barn. It was a fun family activity and a great way to get out and enjoy the Autumn Season!

There are also many permanent 3D mazes around the world. If you happen to be in Australia, you might want to try this awesome Hedge Maze!
