Free Art Lessons on the Web

There are many offers of free Art Lessons on the web. A search for "Art Lessons", "Drawing Lessons" or "Painting Lessons" quickly displays a gazillion sites!

What I've tried to do with this page is wade through some of these for you, to present what I think are quality sites with a superior offering. These are my criteria:

1. The lessons are presented in a way that makes them easy to follow, with clear step-by-step instructions.

2. Any technical terms used are well defined.

3. There are plenty of pictures or video that clearly demonstrate the instructions.

4. If the lessons are for all ages, they are Family Friendly throughout.

Due to the amount of time it takes to research these sites, I expect my list of preferred links to Free Art Lessons will grow slowly. I don't think there will be many, but I know I will feel confident in recommending the select few! To start off, here are a few that I think you will like. (Note; clicking on the following links will open new windows.)

learn-to-draw-lessons.com - Free online drawing lessons and how to draw step-by-step videos. Written instructions are paired with video demonstrations to guide you through the techniques needed to draw 3D objects from life. These free lessons cover valuable information on perspective, contour lines, negative space, portraiture and more!

drawspace.com - This website has a wide variety of step-by-step drawing lessons in Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced categories. There is also a page that defines technical terms. You must register to have access to the lessons, but once you do you will find a treasure trove of lessons from which to choose! The only drawback is that you have to pay a monthly fee to download and print the lessons. However, I found that the pages are easily viewed online so the lessons can be done sitting next to your computer. And you'll save on paper!

Watercolor lessons by Peter Saw - This site is for Advanced students and adults. Peter Saw provides lessons on Watercolors as well as priceless tips on composition. His lessons are accompanied by pictures that clearly demonstrate every concept. I plan on spending some time on this site myself to improve the composition of my coloring pages!

That's all for now. Check back often for more recommendations for free Art Lessons on the Web. You can also subscribe to my e-zine to get updates.
