Author Page for SMac
Welcome to the Author Page for SMac, the online home for author/illustrator Sheryl McClure-Pitler. That's me! I inherited my passion for writing from my father, Michigan poet Warren L. McClure. Most nights he came home after a full day's work and sat down to the typewriter at the dining room table. He often worked late into the night on what was clearly a labor of love. Even when out and about my father was never far removed from his writing. Tucked into his shirt pocket were 3X5 cards and a pen for jotting down ideas. I remember seeing him in church, sitting in the pew, scribbling away on a card! His example also taught me that writing is more than just a desire to express yourself in written words; it is a passion for the words themselves. He is an avid reader and collector of books on practically every subject. Another recollection I have is of pages taped to the dashboard of our car so he could read at the stoplights! I highly DO NOT recommend this! It's no wonder I was drawn to writing. As for illustrating, I'm really just a doodler at heart. If there's a piece of paper laying around and a pencil nearby, well, somehow the pencil ends up in my hand and the paper ends up with a doodle! When you doodle as much as I do you get a lot of drawing practice! And now, thanks to the technology of the internet, I can doodle online! (See

.) At some point I developed the desire to illustrate my writing. No doubt I was inspired by the wonderfully illustrated books read to me as a child. As an adult I still love turning the page and finding an illustration, don't you?
